Our apiaries
Located in the heart of the Strandzha Mountain, in the Strandzha Nature Park (protected by the European Union as part of Natura 2000 and home to the largest oak massif in Europe). They are located in forest areas favourable to the extraction of pure and healing Manna honey and abundant in honey-bearing vegetation.
Oak honeydew honey
The black gold of the Strandzha mountain
Manna honey from the Strandzha mountain is unique and one of its kind thanks to the specific type of oak: Quercus frainetto from which it is extracted, found mainly in Strandzha. We distinguish three types of manna that bees collect:
The first type occurs when oak leaves are attacked by aphids. They pierce the leaf to feed on the sweet liquid contained therein.
The rest is secreted as a sweet, sticky liquid on the surface of the leaf and attracts the bees.
The second type is obtained thanks to acorn proboscis. Their damage to the acorn oozes a dark liquid, which the bees process into honey.
The third type is less known. Obtained when the mildew falls from the sky early in the morning. It is often confused with dew, but it is sticky to the touch. In recent years, due to the unpleasant changes in the climate, this happens less and less frequently.
